Case Study V – Recirculation Valve for Kaa Project

Problem / challenges Faced

The Nuclear Power plant was facing frequent vibration and failure of Imported Foreign brand.

  • The valve worked in nuclear power plant as recirculation valve and causing flow induced vibration and valve parts needs imported, design was expensive and Time consuming.
  •  The valve needs design as per ASME SEC III and needs to undergo stringent quality requirements for a nuclear power plant.
  • The valve needs to seismically qualified and undergo flow test, sound level test and Dynamic response test.
  • The valve needs to test with welded reducer and expander.
  • The plug and seat need to hard face with Colmonoy.

Operating Parameters / Specifications

Design Solution :

We offered our ‘HF’ valve with CV-1500 and provide provision in cage for drilling additional holes -25% space in case there is any requirement in site at future.

Different grades of Colmonoy applied at plug and seat face for getting required hardness.

The design is validated for natural frequency, static loading and flow test using in house analysis capabilities, help us to achieve the results at first time.

The test valve is welded in house with reducer and expander and the entire valve system undergoes all test and met the desired values.

The Indigenous Electrical actuator vendor is developed by us.

Benefit – The end customer benefitted as the control valve with our designed valve is worked without shutdown and Indigenous valve and electric actuator cause significant reduction in spare cost. The additional provision of holes in cage help to use same valve with minimum modification in cage to meet additional flow requirement in future.

Reduction in costs of Imported Spares / Trims.
Economics : Was about 40 % Lower than earlier Imported Variant
